Bill says of himself...

"I was born in Fredericksburg, and I was raised on my family's farm in Catlett. I continue to live on the farm where I work for my father full time. On the farm, we raise cattle and chickens, and we grow hay and grain. My family has called southern Fauquier County home for many generations, and we have always been involved in agriculture.

During a Sunday School class session in 1990, I began my walk with the Lord when I professed Him as my personal Savior.

I graduated from Fauquier High School in 1992. From an early age, I was exposed to bluegrass music by my father, Wayne, and my grandparents. All were WKCW listeners. My father introduced me to the sounds of Reno and Smiley, Bill Clifton, Charlie Moore, et al. Bluegrass music deals with subjects dear to me such as trust in God, family, love of country, and hard work. The music is meaningful because it is performed from the heart. My favorite artists are Flatt and Scruggs and Jimmy Martin.

In 1996, I was hired as a board-op at WKCW Radio (Big K). In 1997, I began hosting "Bill's Bluegrass Pickin' Party," and I served in that capacity until WKCW's format switch in 2003. Bluegrass gospel was always an important part of my program, and in later years, I ended each program with a 30-minute block of gospel.
In May 2003, I received my Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. My degree specialization is Communications.

I attend Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Bristersburg. I am a member of the church's Board of Trustees and Spiritual Life Committee. I also serve as assistant head usher. I find peace in knowing that God is always watching over me and that I can turn to Him at any time. I study my Bible every day, and I lead an active prayer life.

I am pleased to join the WPRZ team. I admire the Buchanans' efforts to preserve bluegrass music and introduce it to a new generation of listeners. This is especially important given bluegrass music's strong ties to the Northern Virginia/Warrenton area."
